Labour democracy

-

SIR – According to Ben Bradshaw MP, Labour has cross-referenced new applications to join the party against the political details it holds for people.

The Data Protection Act classes political information as “sensitive personal data”, and states that such data may not be processed unless “the subject has given his explicit consent”.

While there are exemptions for political bodies, I think Labour is treading a fine line as it struggles to corrupt its own democratic process, which will surely elect Jeremy Corbyn.

SIR – Preventing people from voting, trying to call off an election and vilifying a candidate whose views diverge from the party line is the behaviour of a dictatorship.

The most worrying feature of the election for the leader of the Labour Party has been the attempts by senior party figures to suppress democracy because they fear the result. Clearly, in their eyes, the voters are not to be trusted.

SIR – Conservative euphoria over a Corbyn victory could be short-lived if dissident Labour supporters then vote for the Liberal Democrats, putting the seats of Conservative MPs at risk.
