Ukip takes aim at PM with mobile charges vote

-

Ukip is attempting to derail David Cameron’s campaign to stay in the EU by blocking cheaper mobile roaming in a decisive vote today.

Roger Helmer, a Ukip MEP, has tabled an amendment to sink plans strongly supported by the British government that would eliminate charges for tourists in Europe.

The Prime Minister has held up plans to allow holiday makers to call and use data for the same price anywhere in Europe as a reason to stay in the European Union.

But Mr Helmer said the proposals would drive up bills for customers who do not travel, and said he opposed giving the EU more powers.
