Show goes on while woman in audience sings for 20 minutes
A WOMAN was thrown out of a theatre after she sang along “loudly and badly” during a performance of the musical
The Bodyguard.
The audience member reportedly became aggressive when other theatregoers asked her to be quiet. Staff intervened and ushered the woman out after she spent 20 minutes singing her own renditions of the songs made famous by Whitney Houston.
The cast on stage continued despite the disruption at the final performance of the musical at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall.
The atmosphere was “more like a football match than a theatre trip”, said Sacha Gainard, who went to the show with his parents. He said: “We were a few rows in front of the woman, who it sounds like was being told off for singing along loudly and badly. She was swearing and being quite aggressive to those who were trying to shush her.”
Mr Gainard, of Wymeswold, Leics, said: “It did ruin the first half for those of us on that tier, and was not really the kind of atmosphere you expect at the theatre.”
The musical stars former X Factor winner Alexandra Burke and features a number of famous songs including
Saving All My Love and I Will Always Love You.
Kate Collins, operations director at the theatre, said: “A customer causing a disturbance during the final performance of The Bodyguard was asked to leave. The customer left the building soon after this request. The performance continued unaffected.”
