Steven Soderbergh surpisingly decided to tackle the seedy world of male strippers in Tampa, Florida, and exceeded every expectation: it’s one of his most enjoyable movies. Channing Tatum, in a story based on his own pre-Hollywood career, is revelatory on and off the stage – not least for his excellent dancing – and Soderbergh works similar wonders with Alex Pettyfer and the resurgent Matthew McConaughey.
