Crane collapses in New York

-

One person was killed and three injured yesterday after a crane toppled over in the Tribeca district of Manhattan during the morning rush hour. Bill de Blasio, the mayor, said it was “a miracle” that more people were not killed. The 565ft crane fell as it was being lowered and moved in strong winds of almost 25mph. Construction workers had closed much of the street. Jesse Natale, a 26-year-old civil engineer, said he was waiting at a traffic light when the crane came plummeting down. “If I caught that light, I’d be dead probably,” he said. “It looked like an avalanche.” The victim was a 38-year-old man who was crushed in his car. The three people injured were hit by debris. Police are investigating the incident.
