Madeley chases off ‘creeps’ using drone to spy on garden

-

RICHARD MADELEY has reported two “peeping Toms”, who he alleges were flying a drone over his garden to spy on him, to police.

The former This Morning television host said that he gave chase to the “creeps”, locating the suspected owners in a nearby van, before contacting the local force in Looe, Cornwall.

The pair drove off when challenged, he said.

Madeley, who has also stood in for Chris Evans on Radio 2, gave out the licence number of the van on Twitter in the hope of gathering more information. He and his wife Judy Finnigan have owned a property near Polperro since 1998, according to an interview with a local paper.

Drones with attached cameras have long provoked concerns over privacy among celebrities, including Kanye West, the American rapper and husband of Kim Kardashian, who has accused paparazzi of “stalking” his daughter with the gadgets.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said last night: “Police were called just before 2pm today by a man who had been flying a drone near Porthallow, Looe, Cornwall.

“While leaving the area with his drone the man was approached by another man who was concerned about the use of the drone.

“Subsequently officers were made aware of a number of tweets relating to this incident.

“Police are looking into the use of the drone and if it was being used in accordance with the law.

“Officers are in the process of speaking to both parties to offer reassurance and guidance around the use of drones.”
