Contaminated cat food recalled by maker

-

Cat owners have been warned not to feed their pets contaminated food which has caused diarrhoea and vomiting in the animals and is being withdrawn from shelves.

Hill’s Pet Nutrition has recalled six types of food, which had too much added iron, as it could cause serious health problems for kittens and cats.

Pet owners have been urged to return the food for a full refund.

A spokesman for Hill’s said the company “deeply regretted” the situation and was working with suppliers to improve product safety.

A Food Standards Agency statement read: “There are high levels of iron present in the pet food as a result of an error by an ingredient supplier.”
