I have been invited to No 10, says Trump

DONALD TRUMP is claiming he has been invited to No10 by David Cameron after embassy officials reached out to his advisers.

The US presidential hopeful added that he is still considering the offer.

But a spokesman for No10 said an invite would only be sent out when the candidates for the presidency were confirmed. “It’s long-standing practice for the PM to meet the Republican and Democrat presidential nominees if they visit the UK,” the spokesman said. “Given the parties have yet to choose their nominees, there are no confirmed dates for this.”

It is thought British officials are growing increasingly concerned about damage to the “special relationship” between the two countries after Mr Cameron called Mr Trump’s remarks about banning Muslims from entering the US “stupid, divisive and wrong”.

The Republican candi- date, who is likely to win the nomination, yesterday claimed during an interview on the US channel MSNBC that the Prime Minister “came after me a little bit”.

In an apparent reference to Mr Cameron’s criticism of his plan to ban Muslims from entering America, he said that the Prime Minister would “like me now to visit 10 Downing Street”. Mr Trump added: “They put out

‘I’ll do just fine with David Cameron, I think he’s a nice guy, I’ll do just fine’

that invitation about two days ago. So I’ll do just fine with David Cameron, I think he’s a nice guy, I’ll do just fine.” He previously called on Mr Cameron to apologise for his comments, but the Prime Minister refused.

Last month, it was confirmed that the British ambassador in the US has been “engaging” with officials working for Mr Trump in an attempt to build bridges.
