Heard: I wanted a quiet divorce and I don’t want Depp’s money
AMBER HEARD, the estranged wife of Johnny Depp, has hit back at criticism by the actor’s supporters, saying that she intended to separate quietly from him and denying that she is interested in his money.
Miss Heard, 30, filed for divorce last week and has accused the Oscar-nominated actor of domestic violence. A photograph on Instagram, since taken down, appeared to show bruises on her face, which she said were the result of Mr Depp throwing an iPhone at her. She also had marks on her face when she appeared in court in Los Angeles.
The photographs prompted a fierce debate on social media, with an outpouring of anger and accusations. “Sources” close to both spoke out, and friends of the pair took sides.
Miss Heard’s lawyer, Samantha Spector, issued a rebuke yesterday to those behind some of the criticism, saying the actress had attempted to keep their divorce private. “We took the high road. Unfortunately, Johnny’s team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber’s character,” she said. “Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money.”
Ms Spector said that her client “has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny”. The pair married 15 months ago, having met in 2009 on the set of The Rum Diaries.
Miss Heard has taken out a restraining order against Mr Depp, who is in Germany, playing with his band, and promoting his new film.
