The dog accessories that are fit for a queen

- By Nicola Harley

THE Queen’s love of corgis has prompted the Royal Collection Trust to give pet owners the chance to dress their own dogs in royal tartan.

The Trust’s new pet collection ranges from English fine bone china dog bowls embellished with 24-carat burnished gold and a royal crest, to dog coats decorated in Hunting Stewart tartan – the livery worn at the Queen’s official residence in Scotland, the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Other tartan gifts include a bandanna collar priced at £9.95, a £65 dog basket and a £14.95 squeaky toy shaped liked a bone.

The 11-piece range also includes a double-sided grooming brush (£9.95), an accessory pouch (£14.95), a handmade tartan fleece blanket (£60) and pet beds (£65 to £75). The white china bowl costs £25, while the coats are priced from £35 to £45.

Nuala McGourty, the Trust’s retail director, said: “We are pleased to launch another new retail range, this time taking inspiration from the wellknown royal love of dogs.

“We hope that dog owners will enjoy spoiling their pets with these smart accessories.”

Owners can even purchase a tan leather collar engraved with the words Buckingham Palace for £35.

The Queen once memorably sent the Prince of Wales back to find a dog lead he had lost at Sandringham, telling him: “Dog leads cost money.”

Over the years she has owned more than 30 dogs but now has just two corgis, Holly and Willow, and two dorgis – dachshund/corgi crosses – Candy and Vulcan.

Money raised from the sale of the products will be invested by the RCT charity into its projects to care for and conserve the royal collection.
