The risks Virus can be passed on for months

-

According to Public Health England, the Zika virus has been detected in semen up to two months after patients contract the illness.

Men can transmit the virus sexually to women, although the risk is considered low.

The Foreign Office advises couples to consider using condoms if the man has contracted Zika and continue to do so for six months.

But the EU’s European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says that as the Games take place in Brazil’s cooler, drier winter, there is “very low or no risk” of athletes catching the virus.
