Politician­s defend mob attack after cow killing

Indian politician­s have demanded that the family of a Muslim man who was beaten to death by a Hindu mob be arrested for slaughteri­ng cattle and that all 18 murder charges against the villagers be dropped.

Right-wing leaders used a forensic report confirming that meat found near Mohammad Akhlaq’s home was beef to defend the mob killing eight months ago. Sanjay Rana, of the BJP party, called for police to reduce charges against the suspects, including his son, to culpable homicide.
