Father-in-law of woman in affair with MP quits Tory post
The father-in-law of the married woman a Tory MP had an affair with has quit his position at a Conservative Association over the scandal, branding the politician a “hypocrite”.
Phil Bunt is the father-inlaw of Sarah Bunt, who was named as the woman Steve Double, the MP for St Austell and Newquay in Cornwall, admitted having an affair with.
Mrs Bunt has been married to husband Matt for less than two years. Mr Bunt’s father, Phil, quit as the Deputy Chairman of the St Austell and Newquay Conservative Association.
Speaking of his decision, Mr Bunt said: “I felt remaining in a position which by its very nature requires a good working relationship with the local MP would not be something I could do for both personal and ethical reasons.
“Mr Double has let many people down and shown himself to be hypocritical when getting elected on the basis of his stated position as a family man and Christian.”
