Tensions rise between Germany and Turkey

Germany has summoned the Turkish chargé d’affaires to protest against an extraordinary series of personal attacks on German MPs by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, publicly rebuked the Turkish leader over his remarks, labelling them “incomprehensible”.

There are fears the row could jeopardise the EU’s migrant deal with Turkey. Some German MPs have received threats since Turkey’s leader rounded on them after last week’s vote to recognise the 1915 Armenian genocide.
