England face Fifa action over poppy ceremony
The English and Scottish football associations face disciplinary action by Fifa over the Nov 11 commemorations that included a minute’s silence and the playing of Last Post.
The World Cup qualifying match at Wembley was also marked by poppy displays on video screens and the presence of hundreds of servicemen and women. It was thought Fifa objected only to the poppy armbands the players wore as an outlawed “political” symbol. But a spokesman said proceedings would consider “a non-approved ceremony” and other displays of the poppy symbol.
