Plastic pledges Five helpful consumer habits

Householders are being urged to make five plastic pledges to help decrease the amount in the ocean.

-

1 Use paper mushroom bags to transport loose fruit from supermarkets and grocers instead of plastic bags.

2 Buy a butter dish so that you can purchase butter wrapped in greaseproof paper rather than in cartons. Likewise choose cheese where possible which is wrapped in paper instead of plastic. 3 Leave packaging at the till. Make excess packaging a problem for supermarkets.

4 Swap disposable cigarette lighters for matches, which are made primarily of wood. 5 Ditch plastic bottles and drink water from the tap. Buy a steel bottle to transport tap water. Metal carriers also stop chemicals from plastic leaching into water. Source: Plastic Oceans
