SIR – Nicholas Horne (Letters, February 9) suggests a coat of fresh paint to revive our iron pillar boxes.
Equally in need of saving are the old directional iron signposts with their black raised letters on a white background. A job for volunteers? Roy Hewett Castle Cary, Somerset SIR – I would like to invite Mr Horne to view our seven stunning post boxes in Shefford, Bedfordshire.
I took it upon myself to paint them in honour of the Queen’s 90th birthday last year. Ray Powell Shefford, Bedfordshire SIR – Some time ago I contacted our Post Office to ask if they would paint the post box at the end of our road as it was looking a bit worse for wear.
Two days later a couple of men turned up with pots of paint and paint brushes. Hats off to the Post Office in Chester. Tim Holmes Chester SIR – Jennifer Edwards (Letters, February 10) is lucky to have a post box opposite her house, painted or not.
The George VI box on a wooden post near me was stolen last year and the Post Office is not going to replace it. This is very inconvenient. Vicky Gumm Tarrant Monkton, Dorset
