The Grapes of Wrath (1940, b/w)
SKY CINEMA OSCARS, 3.35PM ★★★★
Fans of Steinbeck’s novel, arguably one of the greatest of the 20th century, may be disappointed by John Ford’s filleting of this tale of an Oklahoma family struggling to survive during the Depression. But in its own right, it is a beautiful piece of cinema as the stark realities of everyday life are realised in shockingly simple terms. Henry Fonda stars.
