Fishing quotas must be reformed, not dumped

sir – Owen Paterson (Comment, March 23) wants to get rid of fishing quotas introduced under the European Economic Community in the Seventies.

Quotas need to be kept, but we need to be setting them, not Brussels. There should also be an end to the practice of throwing back any fish caught unintentionally. Robert Ward Loughborough, Leicestershire
