Call for hill fort ‘eyesore’ steps to be replaced
An Iron Age hill fort has been turned into an “eyesore”, residents have claimed, after a council attached a flight of glass fibre steps on to it.
Locals have started a petition calling for the £65,000 staircase to the top of Castle Hill at Thetford, Norfolk, to be replaced. Matthew Spencer, who lives near the hill, said: “It couldn’t be worse to be honest. It’s an eyesore.”
Thetford town council defended the installation and said wooden steps would have needed more work and would cost more to maintain.
