Soldier jailed for killing teenage runners with car
A soldier killed two talented teenage runners with his “loaded weapon of a hot-hatch” highperformance car, the mother of one of the victims said yesterday.
Rifleman Michael Casey had been drinking beer and cocktails before driving through a red light and smashing into Lucy Pygott, 17, and Stacey Burrows, 16.
He was jailed for six years at Winchester Crown Court as Lucy’s mother Lisa Pygott accused the 24-year-old of robbing Britain of future Olympic medals.
She added: “He chose to turn the key, he chose to accelerate, break the speed limit, drive through a red light and brutally mow them down all while knowing he was drunk. The Army trains soldiers to kill and he killed, with his loaded weapon, a hot-hatch car.”
Judge Keith Cutler, who banned Casey from driving for 10 years, said: “Sadly, both these children had immensely golden futures.”
