Christians across the world have been marking the Holy Week before Easter.

In the Vatican, Pope Francis led the Chrism Mass in Saint Peter’s Basilica, left, while events were also marked in the Old City in Jerusalem including at the Ethiopian church of Deir El-Sultan,

above, which is situated next to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Jesus’s reported burial place.

In Spain many towns and villages held processions to mark Holy Week, including Zamora, below where penitents paraded an image of Christ.
