The fate of the girls abducted by Boko Haram

-

sir – Three years ago, 276 girls were abducted from a school in Nigeria by the terror group Boko Haram.

The #BringBackOurGirls campaign went global with support from people such as Michelle Obama and Emma Watson. Despite this, most of those girls are still missing.

As many as 8,000 women and girls have been abducted by Boko Haram. Many have endured rape and forced marriage. Some escape, but are often rejected by husbands, families and communities due to stigma around sexual violence. They face a life of poverty and isolation.

Local organisations are working to support and integrate the girls – but this needs to be scaled up. We must ensure they can move on from the horrors of captivity. Harriet Lamb CEO, International Alert London SW9
