Young keeping community spirit alive
Young people are more enthusiastic about reviving their local community spirit than their parents, according to a study by the Co-op.
Despite time constraints and a lack of confidence, young people are getting involved in volunteering and local activities. Almost 80 per cent of those aged between 25 and 34 are interested in being part of their local community, compared with 70 per cent of those aged over 45.
Rufus Olins, the Co-op’s chief membership officer, said: “The death of communities and the disaffection of young people has been exaggerated.”
