Former warlord returns to Kabul

Former Afghan warlord Gulbuddin Hekmatyar returned to Kabul yesterday after two decades, calling for peace with the Taliban and criticising the Westernbacked government. His arrival in the city his forces bombarded during the 1990s appeared designed to bolster his status as a major new force on the political scene.
