Drought-busting

SIR – Drought is said to be looming again (report, May 4). Is this really due to changing weather patterns – or over-development without adequate provision of extra reservoirs?

Maybe all new-builds should have water collection tanks, to conserve rainwater for non-essential use around the home.

SIR – Anne Donaldson (Letters, May 2) quotes the old saying: “Oak before ash, we are in for a splash; / Ash before oak, we are in for a soak.” She adds that there are no leaves on the ash tree near her home.

I suspect ash dieback is playing its part.
