Police search garages for murdered girl
POLICE have begun fresh searches for the body of a schoolgirl murdered 16 years ago, after admitting they failed to act on a tip-off in the original investigation.
Danielle Jones was 15 when she was murdered in 2001 by her uncle Stuart Campbell. Her body was never found, but yesterday detectives began searching a garage block close to where Campbell lived, after saying they had received fresh information about the case.
Danielle’s parents, Linda and Tony, visited the scene and said they still held out hope of finding out about their daughter’s remains.
Essex Police said the searches were sparked by a “credible” tip-off about a man acting suspiciously near the garages at around the time Danielle disappeared. They admitted they did not act on similar information in 2001.
