SIR – David Salter (Letters, May 15) claims that The Macabre coffee bar “was in fact in Wardour Street”.

I am sorry to disillusio­n him, but The Macabre – coffin-shaped tables and all – was in fact in Meard Street, just off Wardour Street. Terry Heard

SIR – Marguerita Ireland (Letters, May 12) describes a coffee bar in Haymarket during the Fifties and Sixties, which had “a high cascade of water running down sheets of coloured glass or transparen­t plastic into a pool”.

It was called Kaleidosco­pe, and it was a fun place to meet friends. Enid Frow

SIR – Could it have been Trader Vic’s? This was a Polynesian-themed bar that I recall visiting in the early Seventies.

I am sure that it had a waterfall and a pool. It was quite the most exotic place I had ever seen. Moira Rudolf

SIR – The coffee bar that had cascading water running down glass or plastic sheets into a pool was called The Coffee House. It was designed by Antoine Acket and E E Barlow. Ivan Roach
