Cramped theatre seats will become empty ones

-

SIR – Sir Derek Jacobi says theatre productions are casting celebrities rather than actors in order to get “bums on seats” (report, May 10).

I recently went to a performance at a West End theatre (£70 a ticket). As an average 5ft 10in man, I was virtually sitting on both my neighbours’ laps, with my legs in contortions, for two hours.

They’ll need to make the seats much more inviting before my bum returns. I’ll stick to the modern provincials.
