Girl, 11, tells her school class punishments are ‘war crimes’
AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl told her teacher that the whole class should not be punished for one pupil’s mistakes because it would be a “war crime” under the Geneva Conventions.
Her seemingly precocious comments caught the attention of social media users when they were shared by her father on Twitter.
Gavin Bell, who writes on the social media website under the name Mason Cross, shared his daughter Ava’s school feedback form with his followers.
The form included a section titled “Things my teacher(s) can do better”.
Ava wrote: “Not use collective punishment as it is not fair on the many
‘Do not use collective punishment as it is not fair on the many people who did nothing... it’s a war crime’
people who did nothing and under the 1949 Genva [sic] Conventions it is a war crime.”
Mr Bell shared a picture of his daughter’s handwritten comments on the social media site with the caption: “Not sure if I should ground her or buy her ice cream”.
But after it garnered the approval of hundreds of thousands of Twitter users, he released another picture of her holding two ice cream cones, saying: “The people have spoken.”
Mr Bell, from Glasgow, disputed any suggestion that he had invented his daughter’s criticism to get more attention online.
“If I’d made it up I would have got her to fix the spelling of Geneva,” he said.
