Stun gun PC in court on assault charge
A police officer will appear in court to face a charge of common assault after a race relations adviser was allegedly stunned by a Taser.
Pc Claire Boddie, 47, has been summoned to appear at Taunton magistrates’ court on August 14 charged with common assault, the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.
The charge arises from an incident in which Judah Adunbi, 63, was allegedly hit with a Taser in Easton, Bristol, on January 14 this year. A video of the alleged incident was widely shared on social media at the time.
Avon and Somerset Police voluntarily referred itself to the IPCC following the incident. A force spokesman said: “Chief Constable Andy Marsh has made clear from the start of this investigation that we will discuss the matter fully and publicly once the investigation has concluded.”
Mr Adunbi is a former member of the force’s Independent Advisory Group, advising on policing issues that may cause concern to local people.
