The hole story
The 75-year mystery of a church’s leaking roof has finally been solved after Luftwaffe bullet holes were discovered in an ancient spire. Leaders of St Peter’s Church, Folkestone, Kent, believe a Messerschmitt strafing raid in March 1941 pierced the roof and splintered timbers, right, causing the steeple to move and let in rain. David Wilson, the church warden, said: “The roof has been leaking long enough for everyone to believe it has always leaked.”
