BBC Proms 2017
RADIO 3, 7.30PM
The Proms round off the week with an exotic maritime feel, as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan, perform Rimskykorsakov’s colourful
Scheherazade, based on the
One Thousand and One
Nights and the voyages of Sinbad the Sailor. It’s followed by the Swedish composer Anders Hillborg’s Sirens, inspired by Homer’s
Odyssey, as well as Korngold’s stormy film score for The
Sea Hawk. The sopranos performing are two Swedes, Hannah Holgersson and Ida Falk Winland, to complete the Scandinavian feel.
