Police officer and medic ‘sprayed by assailants’

Two off-duty emergency services workers were sprayed in the face with an unknown substance after they stopped at a car fire on a motorway.

A police officer and a paramedic stopped to help after a car collided with a lorry on the M11 on Friday at around 7pm. Essex Police said that as the occupants of the stolen VW Golf got out of the vehicle, they sprayed an unknown substance into the faces of the two emergency responders.

The two people sprayed received medical treatment but it is not thought they will suffer any long-term effects. The driver of the lorry was uninjured, police said.
