Trump gets ‘real’ The video highlights
1 President Trump donates his salary
His first quarter salary of $78,000 went to the parks department; his second, $100,000, to education. “This is a president who is putting America before himself.”
2 Unemployment figures at lowest since 2001
Lara Trump claimed that the unemployment rate – 4.4pc in June, 4.3pc in May – is the lowest since 2001. However, for four months in 2005 and 2006, the unemployment rate was also 4.4pc. Analysts point out that unemployment has been steadily declining since the low point during the recession in 2009, so neither Mr Trump nor any other president takes all the credit.
3 Stock market hits a record high
The Dow has hit an all-time high, and Mrs Trump says 800,000 new jobs have been created since Mr Trump was inaugurated in January. “The stock market is up, the economy is booming, ladies and gentlemen.”
4 President honours police who saved baseball-playing politicians
Mr Trump welcomed to the White House the officers who fired back at James Hodgkinson on June 14. The president handed out medals for their bravery. Steve Scalise, the majority whip who was seriously injured, was released from hospital last week.
5 President cracks down on gangs
Mrs Trump said that the president talked to police officers on Long Island about “cracking down on the MS-13 gang”. She failed to mention how he told officers they should not worry about bashing the heads of suspects they arrested – remarks which earned him rebukes from police nationwide.
