‘One of the children was running in the road crying that her mummy was bleeding’

A YOUNG girl who was at her family home when her father killed her mother in a suspected murder-suicide ran out of the house in tears and told a neighbour: “My mummy is bleeding”.

Police were called to a terrace in Oldbury, West Midlands, after a neighbour heard the cries of two young children and a small baby at the address, witnesses said yesterday.

They discovered the body of a 26-year-old woman with head injuries. Her husband, believed to be a 30-yearold lorry driver, was found dead in another room in the incident on Saturday. Both are thought to be East European.

Detective Inspector Jim Munro, of West Midlands Police, confirmed that police were not looking for anyone in connection with the deaths.

A neighbour who wanted to remain anonymous, said yesterday: “One of the children was running in the road crying that her mummy was bleeding.

“She must have been about seven or eight [and] knocked on the neighbour’s door. There’s a baby and another child who live there and were all taken out.”

Another neighbour, named only as Mr Singh, said he went to the house and saw a man’s body on the floor. He believed the man had hanged himself.

“I saw the emergency services take the little girl away. She was white with a blank expression,” he said. “She still had her pyjamas on, I can’t imagine what she saw.”

Police were alerted by a neighbour about 2pm on Saturday.

Detective Inspector Munro added: “This is a truly tragic incident. It is understood the woman was violently attacked before the offender took his own life.

“There were three children, including a small baby, present at the address when officers made the discovery. They are being looked after and will receive specialist support.”

A post mortem examination is due to take place on the bodies later today.
