Cycle magazine sorry for ‘attractive woman’ caption

A cycling magazine has apologised for publishing a photo caption which labelled a female cyclist “token attractive woman”.

Cycling Weekly used the caption for a photo included in a feature on Hinckley Cycling Race Club in Leicestershire. Simon Richardson, the magazine’s editor, apologised, and said: “You can see how these things happen – comments slip through the net when things need to be proofread properly.”

Hannah Noel, the cyclist in the picture, said: “I made it into Cycling Weekly, it seems not for my ability as a female cyclist but as a ‘token attractive woman’ – I’m absolutely gutted and disappointed in the magazine.”
