Grand tradition A brief history of the Hopwoods
Hopwoods (William de Hopwode) were recorded in 1277 in the reign of Edward I.
The hall was built by John Hopwood in the 1400s on a site occupied by the family for hundreds of years. Some of the family set sail for America in the 1700s and settled in land later named Hopwood, Pennsylvania.
In 1928, H Hopwood Black moved to Michigan to help build the new automobile industry.
