Rubbish labelling

- Hazel Wicks Gillian Lurie

SIR – We live in an area which accepts only plastics categorised as 1, 2 or 5, so we have to sort them out (Letters, September 1). It would be so helpful if the manufacturers could make their symbols slightly larger. Tiny symbols on thin, crinkly, light-reflecting plastic make even magnifying glasses barely helpful.

Manufacturers, please give us a fighting chance.

SIR – My biggest bugbear in wrappings is the soft plastic “envelopes” in which so much of our post is delivered. We are unable to recycle them here and half our black-bin general rubbish is taken up with them.
