SIR – This part of Yorkshire has its share of wonderful street names.
Kingston upon Hull has not only the well-known Land of Green Ginger, Whitefriargate and Blackfriargate (named after orders of friars), but also the evocative Rotenhering Staithe – while nearby Beverley has Old Waste.

SIR – I live in Picklepythe Lane. Beat that – or determine its derivation. Frank Wood
Beenham, Berkshire
SIR – The other day, while cycling into a headwind of torrential rain and hail, I rode past Labour in Vain Drove in Billinghay, Lincolnshire. Martin Criddle
