ED SHEERAN could be forced to cancel part of his world tour after breaking his arm in a cycling accident.

The British singer posted a picture of himself on social media with his right arm in a plaster cast and his left arm in a sling.

“I’ve had a bit of a bicycle accident,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m currently waiting on some medical advice, which may affect some of my forthcoming shows. Please stay tuned for further news.”

According to some reports, Sheeran was in collision with a car.

The 26-year-old has always prided himself on the simplicity of his live shows, performing with an acoustic guitar and loop pedal as his only accompaniment.

Unfortunately for fans, his refusal to countenance a backing band means that concerts will have to be cancelled if he is unable to play the guitar.

The Asian leg of his tour is due to begin in Taipei on Sunday, the first of 14 dates. It is not known whether Sheeran has followed the lead of Keith Richards: the Rolling Stones guitarist was rumoured to have insured his hands for up to $2million.

Sheeran’s tour is in support of his multi-millionselling third album, Divide.

News of his injury was broken by an Australian DJ, who wrote on social media: “Hope what I’m hearing isn’t true. Sources in London telling me [Sheeran has] been hit by a car while riding a bike.”

Despite his global fame – his Instagram account has 15.7 million followers – Sheeran attempts to go incognito in London and in Suffolk, where he grew up.

“Suffolk folk, we’re quite easy going – we all own bicycles and we like our ale,” he has said.
