C-section Brazil
WORLD SERVICE, 11.30AM
In the UK, caesarean sections account for a quarter of all births; in Brazil, the figure is double that. In this thoughtprovoking documentary, reporter Julia Carneiro speaks to Brazilian women who have recently had the procedure, and wonders why the country has embraced natal surgery so wholeheartedly. She also meets advocates, to whom C-sections are efficient and minimise maternal suffering, and more than a few women who feel they were deprived of natural birth against their will.
