Trapeze (1956) MORE4, 10.00AM ★★★
This circus-set film from Carol Reed (The Third Man) is enjoyably trashy. Burt Lancaster (doing many of his own stunts) stars as a trapeze artist who takes a young protégé, Tino Orsini (Tony Curtis), under his wing, believing him capable of one day performing the notoriously dangerous triple somersault. However, Tino soon finds himself distracted from his training by the beautiful but manipulative Lola (Gina Lollobrigida). Sing (2016) SKY CINEMA PREMIERE, 4.30PM ★★★
This well-trodden tale of triumph over adversity would fail in lesser hands than those of British director Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Son of Rambow). In a city of animated animals, a koala theatre manager (voiced by Matthew Mcconaughey) tries to save his struggling venue by inviting the townscreatures to compete in an
X Factor-style contest – prompting a fun cast of characters to try their luck. St Vincent (2014) FILM4, 9.00PM ★★★
This Brooklyn-set comedy drama is about a Vietnam veteran with every Scroogian characteristic writerdirector Theodore Melfi can possibly ascribe to him. Bill Murray’s Vincent is stubborn, grasping, rude and belligerent. The plot revolves around his relationship with a bullied 12-yearold, Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher), who is desperately in need of a father figure. Murray’s in his comfort zone but it’s no worse for that.
