School meals to have extra helping of veg
MILLIONS of school dinners and hospital meals will contain more vegetables after one of the UK’S biggest caterers promised to make its food healthier.
Yesterday Sodexo, the world’s largest services company, joined major supermarkets, takeaway chains and manufacturers at a summit in central London to commit to increasing the amount of vegetables in their meals.
Sodexo has pledged to increase the volume of vegetables it puts in food by 10per cent by 2020, as well as developing new recipes that are more vegetable focused.
The “Peas Please” campaign was organised by the Food Foundation, a think tank, to improve the quality of the vegetables offered in shops, schools and restaurants.
