Good Samaritan is killed trying to help at crash site

-

A driving instructor was crushed to death by a Highways Maintenance lorry after he had stopped to help at the scene of a crash, a court was told.

Good Samaritan Geoffrey Smith, 59, had pulled over in his driving school car and was walking along the grass verge towards the accident when Richard Wills, a lorry driver, also stopped to help and began reversing. Moments later the tipper ran over Mr Smith and he was killed.

Yesterday Mr Wills, denied causing death by careless driving. Both men had stopped to help new driver Joshua French whose car had overturned and crashed off the dual carriageway.

The trial continues.
