Sgt Bergdahl apologises to injured
Sgt Bowe Bergdahl offered an emotional apology yesterday to military personnel wounded during the search after he went missing and described the emotional damage he suffered during five years as a prisoner of the Taliban.
He gave his account as a court decides his punishment for endangering comrades when he walked away from his post in Afghanistan in 2009. “I would like everyone who searched for me to know it was never my intention for anyone to be hurt, and I never expected that to happen,” he said, pausing as emotion overtook him at times.
“My words alone can’t take away their pain.”
Meanwhile, a federal judge in Washington yesterday blocked Donald Trump’s attempt to prevent transgender people from serving in the US military.
