Duchess shows skills in a (£220) tracksuit

- By Camilla Turner and Caroline Leaper

‘She asked what kind of stuff George should be doing. He is interested but he just wants to whack the ball’

IT IS not often that one would see a member of the Royal Family donning a tracksuit to an official engagement.

However, the Duchess of Cambridge can hardly be accused of choosing a dress-down option as she sported a £220 pair of Stefanï Grosse “designer leggings” and a £170 pair of trainers as she joined children playing tennis.

The Duchess picked up a racquet to help youngsters with their drills at the National Tennis Centre, leaping around and bending to pick up the ball before congratulating them on their skills. Looking in good health, yesterday was her first solo appearance since Kensington Palace officially confirmed that she is expecting her third child in April.

The leggings, which she wore to play tennis in 2014, were designed by Stefanï Grosse, a tennis playerturned-fashion designer. Victoria Beckham was Grosse’s first celebrity admirer, followed by the supermodel Elle Macpherson and the Duchess’s sister, Pippa Matthews.

The Duchess, an avid tennis fan, revealed she is trying to teach Prince George but he only wants hit the ball hard. Sam Richardson, the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) coach said: “She asked what kind of stuff George should be doing. He is interested but he just wants to whack the ball. You have to wait for them to show interest.”

Mr Richardson, who heads up the LTA’S Tennis for Kids grassroots programme, said: “She said she had also spoken to Judy Murray”.

The Duchess visited the centre in London as part of her role as LTA patron, having taken over the post from the Queen. Britain’s Johanna Konta, the world No 9, also attended as an ambassador for the Tennis for Kids scheme.
