Climber near death traced to alpine crevasse
A German mountaineer was rescued in the Austrian Alps after being trapped in a crevasse for five days.
The 45-year-old, named only as Henning K, became trapped after a 60ft fall as he neared the summit of the 7,500ft Dachstein mountain. He was about to enter fatal hypothermia, when rescuers found him after a police officer noticed calls had been made to the local emergency number without properly connecting – and traced them back to the stricken climber’s phone.
