Rising from the ashes
SIR – I do not share Ian Yonge’s objections to the National Trust’s plans for Clandon Park (Letters, December 9).
To me they are imaginative and sensitive: the house won’t become a pastiche of itself. The devastating episode of the fire in its architectural history will be marked.
I hope this gives it new life as a centre for the study of the Georgian country house, the disasters that befall heritage sites and, ultimately, how to preserve them.
