‘Unlimited cheese festival’ ran out of cheese

- By Callum Adams

A CHEESE festival has been inundated with complaints after customers claimed they spent £30 on tickets only to find that the food had run out.

The non-refundable celebration of cheese, organised by The Giant Cheeseboard on Saturday, was to take people to “cheesy heaven”, according to its Facebook page.

Organisers promised guests at the event, in Greenwich, south-east London, “unlimited cheese, mulled wine and fun” and likened the event to “being able to walk around a giant cheese board”.

However the event, which had previously featured in a national magazine, was harangued on Twitter, where people complained that it was “overpriced” and “disappointing”. Some claimed that organisers were refusing to refund their tickets and were deleting reviews. Sarah Hennessey tweeted that she paid £37 and “didn’t even get any cheese!”

Attendees were offered the chance to be chaperoned around the cheeseboard while consuming as much cheese and wine as they wished, while immersed in a party with “special guest DJS”.

Organisers promised that the event “is going to change your lives forever”. Yet the reality appears to have been very different. One customer alleged that a Sainsbury’s delivery van arrived after the session had started, while another complained that the event’s security had turned up 30 minutes late.

Each six-hour “session”, the last of which is due on Dec 23, costs £30, rising to £37.50 plus a £3.75 fee for those buying late on.

The Giant Cheeseboard did not respond to requests for a comment.
